Pelvic Yoga facilitates optimum health of the urinary and reproductive systems by strengthening the pelvic floor. The focus is on preventing urinary incontinence, enhancing sexuality, and maintaining pelvic health. Men and women of all ages will benefit from a preventative program of pelvic exercises.
For women who are pre- and post-pregnancy or pre- and post-menopause, the program is essential to overcome natural weakening of the pelvic floor caused by weight gain, stretching of pelvic muscles during pregnancy and delivery, and/or hormonal changes.
Because male incontinence does occur, men will also benefit from Pelvic Yoga.
Pelvic Yoga integrates pelvic floor exercises into a yoga practice designed to strengthen, tone, and increase flexibility in the muscles of the pelvis, abdomen, lower back, hips, and thighs. About the Author:
Kimberlee Bethany Bonura, PhD, Registered Yoga Teacher, provides a full spectrum of yoga, fitness, and wellness consulting services.
Kimberlee Bethany Bonura earned her PhD in Educational Psychology from Florida State University, with a research focus in Sport & Exercise Psychology, and graduate certificates in Program Evaluation and Educational Measurement and Statistics. Her doctoral dissertation, The Impact of Yoga on Psychological Health in Older Adults, won national awards from the American Psychological Association (Division 47) and the Association for Applied Sport Psychology.
Dr. Bonura has been practicing yoga for over twenty years and teaching yoga since 1997. She is a triple-certified yoga instructor, registered with the Yoga Alliance, and a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists. She is also a certified personal trainer (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America), a certified group fitness instructor (International Fitness Professionals Association), a certified group kickboxing instructor (AFAA), a certified tai chi / Qi gong instructor (IFPA), a certified senior fitness specialist (IFPA), a certified weight management instructor (IFPA), certified in prenatal and youth fitness (AFAA), a certified anger resolution therapist (CAR), and a Reiki master in the Usui System.
Dr. Bonura has extensive experience as a yoga, fitness, and wellness instructor. She specializes in developing personally tailored plans to promote an individual’s well-being and achievement of wellness goals. Dr. Bonura’s combined backgrounds in academic research, yoga/fitness/wellness instruction and consulting, and program evaluation provide a unique perspective that allows her to provide comprehensive wellness promotion and performance enhancement services.
Dr. Bonura has developed specialized yoga programs in Seated/Chair Yoga for Senior Citizens; Pelvic Yoga for pre/post pregnancy, pre/post menopause, incontinence prevention, and sexual enhancement; Power Yoga for Empowerment, designed to encourage self-esteem in teenagers and young adults; and Partner Yoga for family and marital enhancement.
