Monster! #31: November 2016 (Rational Human Condition)
Well, we suffered a whole lot of labor pains while giving birth to this our BIGGEST issue of MONSTER! yet, but all the screaming and mess were well worth it, cuz here it is! In no particular order, M! #31’s contents include: an article about the long-lost Australian poltergeist movie, THE GUYRA GHOST MYSTERY (1921); “Chills from Chile: EL SINIESTRO DR. MORTIS & His Lost TV Horrorsâ€, a piece about one of South America’s most iconic horror characters; “The STRANGER THINGS Study & Viewing Guideâ€, a personal appraisal/analysis of Netflix’s recent megahit series; “The Adventures of Neutron, The Masked Marvelâ€, a long and loving look back at the Mexican monster-wrestling superhero’s movie and comic series; “Gonzo for Gorgons: Medusa in Cinemaâ€, complete with supplemental pictorial gallery of assorted medusællanea in popular culture from around the world; “Demon With the Inky Handâ€, an interview with talented young comics artist Jason Shiga; “D.I.Y. Dohler: Baltimore’s B-Movie Kingâ€, plus an accompanying exclusive interview with frequent Dohler/John Waters casting choice George Stover; and, last but by no means least, “World of Horrorâ€, another instalment in our periodic Monster Magazines That Time Forgot series, this one covering a little-remembered British prozine from the ’70s. In addition to all these ghastly goodies, we’ve got original artwork (Pt. 3 of our series “Monsters! An Illustrated Movie History†and Pt. 1 of our new giant monster comic strip “Gargantusâ€), a monstrous mass of movie reviews – including SHIN GOJIRA (2016), MUTILATIONS (1986), HISSS (2010), the two BASKET CASE sequels (1990-91), the OBLIVION duo (1994-95), 100 MONSTERS (1968), GODZILLA 1985 (1984), DEAD RISING: WATCHTOWER (2015), THE ALIEN DEAD (1980) and VEERANA (1986), etc.), plus masses of video availability info, as per usual.
