Not only do we get the blow by blow of many legendary fights of Hall Of Famers, but also much behind the scenes information that was previously lost to time. This book brings us back into the athletic clubs, backroom makeshift rings, and huge venues, Witness practically firsthand the crowds, the referees, the gloves, the blood, the police, and of course, the fights and fighters themselves. . He traveled with the entourages of both James J. Corbett and Bob Fitzsimmons to New Orleans for their World Championship fights of 1892 and 1894, giving us some great anecdotes of what they were like outside the ring. He saw John L. Sullivan, usually drunk and always surrounded by people, in New York numerous times, as well as the vaudeville shows of Corbett, Fitz, and John L. when they appeared on the New York stage. He saw the great black boxers of the era- Joe Walcott, Peter Jackson, George Dixon, Joe Gans- not once, but numerous times in some instances- and other greats, like Jack "Nonpareil" Dempsey, Kid Lavigne, Young Griffo, Joe Choynski, and Jack McAuliffe. All of these men are Hall Of Famers. Profusely illustrated with photos of every Hall Of Famer mentioned. So without further adieu, proceed to be KO'd by the great stories herein.
