The 5 agora coin was introduced in 1985 as one of New Israeli Sheqel (NIS) coin series, also known as simply the Israeli shekel (sign: ₪, code: ILS). Israeli agorot and shekel are the currency of Israel and also used as a legal tender in the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
The 5 agora coin, last minted in 2006, was removed from circulation on 1 January 2008.
Composition: 92% copper, 6% aluminum and 2% nickel. The coin weighs 3 grams, 19.5 mm in diameter, 1.3 mm thickness. Edge: smooth.
Obverse: replica of a coin from the fourth year of the war of the Jews against Rome depicting a lulav between two etrogim, the state emblem (menorah), "Israel" in Hebrew, Arabic and English. Reverse: value in Hebrew and English, date in Hebrew (please note: actual coin's issue date may vary from picture).
