If you are totally new to computers this book may not be for you. It assumes that one can take images from their camera and upload those files to the computer then find them and open them in your photo editor of choice. If you can do that you should be fine even if you never have used Corel Painter before. Creating beautiful art takes time, you will not have a winner the first attempt, thank goodness. You will however be freed from software apprehension.
