Bobby Custer just cannot seem to bring affairs to their natural conclusion. Against all odds, his boss, Noah Denton has survived each of the unfortunate events in the steady decline of his health. (Closer inspection of the events would reveal the extraordinary coincidence that each occurred shortly after a visit from his â€œadopted sonâ€ Bobby, but no one seems to be inspecting closely.)

Thus far, Bobby has managed to stay in the game by relying on -- and cultivating -- the worst characteristics of human nature in everyone he meets. But the game is changing, and Bobbyâ€™s life is going up in flames bit by bit. Maneuvered into a position roughly right smack in the middle of two opposing crime lords, Bobby canâ€™t be sure whoâ€™s trying to kill him at any given moment. The question is: Can he convince one of them heâ€™s worth more alive than dead?
