Jackâ€™s world is changed forever when his mother sends him next door one morning to return a bag of sugar to Helen Hunt. He finds her, not quite all there, on the floor in her kitchen. She still has on her black nightslip. He asks, â€œAre you okay?â€ She doesnâ€™t answerâ€”instead, she hands him a photo. It shows her husband and a young blonde, both naked. The picture doesnâ€™t leave any doubt as to what they are doing.

Before Jack realizes what is happening, Helen Hunt pulls him down to her and they are having sex. She finally sends him home and, during the coming weeks, says nothing about what happened between them. He tries, but cannot get her alone again. That is, until he and Helenâ€™s son, Ben, are ready to go to college. Both their cars are over-packed, leaving Helen to have to make the trip sitting in Jackâ€™s lap in her short sundressâ€¦
